Adam Proteau: Avs, Rangers, Oilers and Wild can't stand pat this summer
The St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks didn't make widespread changes to their rosters in the years prior to this season, but there are a number of NHL franchises that are now in a position where the status quo is no longer an option for them this off-season. If you read the headline, you can probably guess which teams they are! |

Barrie to Oilers for Jordan Eberle with 1 million in salary retained - 6ringslowe
Colorado seems to have good firepower up front. They seem to be lacking on the back end. So, I am surprised by the Tyson Barrie discussions. I know the Duschennes rumours are probably a pipe dream for other teams but they seem to make more sense than trading Barrie. Duschennes would get you a lot more for an already weak back end and, if, you combine this with also resigning Barrie you might convert your weak D into a strength. |

Problem with NuHop and Eberle is that they do not bring a physical dimension. i think the Oilers will get a top Dman but it is going to cost them Draisaitl and the #4 pick. I would do Draisaitl and the #4 for Eckmann-Larson or equivalent player.
It might appear like an overpayment but people would forget about the overpayment the moment the Oilers started to contend. |

The oilers aren't going to trade draisaitl anyway.
I'd actually bet there's less chance of him going than hall for various reasons. Which is also unlikely for anything less than a slam dunk
While I think there's some small possibility of nurse/hall going, There's not many realistic scenarios where this happens
Bet that Connor/ Leon/ hall/nurse are all oilers next year.
And Arizona isn't trading oel. Can't think of too many in the superstar echelon that would be available.
a younger top 4 guy with top pairing potential or a solid 2/3 vet is what the oilers are looking at. Hopefully even two of em.

Doesn't matter, the best defenders in the league are the ones that move the puck well when clearing, not the ones with size that hit. OEL can do just that and for that reason is worth a ton. |

What doesn't matter ?
What does oel's size have to do with my post ?
When did I say he wasn't incredibly valuable ?
Where did I say he wasnt elite?
Did you mean to quote a different post?
Or were you just bursting with anticipation to get an oiler troll in and be damned that it literally had no relevance to my post ? |

IMO, inspite of Nugent Hopkin's two way play, he should be the one moved as opposed to Eberle. Goal scoring is hard to come by and Eberle just has a knack for it. Plus Oil are set down the middle. |

The title to the article is that these teams cant stand pat yet you write..
"It’s unrealistic to imagine he’ll make a number of blockbuster transactions that retool the franchise for a longer-term run down the road; far more likely, I think, are complementary additions and depth moves to give Lundqvist and team veterans one final shot"
Complementary additions and depth moves are done every season. those are mostly bottom 6 players or a 5/6/7 Dman.
Do you really think this franchise can realistically win with the core group now? They havent done so in 3 years. Its time to move Nash, Staal or Girardi just to free up some cap space and get whatever you can. |

No, was refering to the fact your post was getting bent over size, when it's overblown. |

So out of the entire NHL you think only 4 teams shouldn't stand pat? I would suggest you would be hard pressed to find 4 teams who WILL stand pat and do nothing. |

I think it would incorrect to suggest that both the Sharks and Blues standed pat.
A third of the Blues dfense changed. Fourth liners were reshuffled, added a rookie scoring threat and traded a player of the former core for a different style but effective player.
The Sharks changed something like ten men on their roster and their coach.
